PETALING JAYA: Bukit Gasing assemblyman R Rajiv has deferred to Selangor DAP chief Ng Sze Han on whether the party will urge the state government to give equal funds to all its assemblymen.
With DAP already urging Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to give equal funds to all MPs, Rajiv said Ng was better positioned to answer if the state chapter would push for the same initiative in Selangor.
“If you want to ask if DAP will push (for it), you’ve got to ask my Selangor DAP chairman,” he said at a press conference.
The state DAP assistant treasurer maintained that he was “not the right person to ask”, and that further questions could be directed to DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo.
Civil society group Projek Sama previously urged state governments to table enactments mandating equal funding for all assemblymen.
Only the Perak and Kelantan governments currently channel equal funds to all assemblymen, though this has yet to be institutionalised.
Yesterday, Gobind urged Anwar to provide equal funds for all MPs and to institutionalise the practice by enacting legislation to permanently guarantee equal allocations.
This was after DAP’s special congress on Sunday voted to remain in the unity government, which Gobind said came with a mandate to take decisive steps for the passage of key reforms.
