PETALING JAYA: TalentCorp says it has been working with the health ministry to review the returning experts programme to encourage Malaysian health and medical professionals working abroad to return home.
The agency said it intends to formalise its collaboration with the ministry through a memorandum of understanding to strengthen coordination and make the overall process faster and more efficient.
TalentCorp said it received 774 applications from health professionals since 2011, of whom 495 were approved, and 351 have returned to Malaysia.
The review of the programme follows Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s call to review the application process for Malaysians seeking to return and contribute their expertise to the country.
TalentCorp said health professionals seeking to return must obtain the professional registrations required to practice in Malaysia, such as registration with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and the National Specialist Register.
They must also undergo an additional technical assessment through a joint working committee comprising TalentCorp, the ministry, MMC and relevant regulatory and professional bodies.
