KUANTAN: Four men armed with parangs and a suspected pump gun carried off about RM500,000 in jewellery from a goldsmith’s shop in Taman Pandan Damai here today.
Kuantan police chief Ashari Abu Samah said four men wearing face shields fled on two motorcycles at about 2pm with an unspecified amount of jewellery.
“The initial estimated loss is about RM500,000 and the exact amount is still in the process of verification,” he said in a statement today.
A witness, who wished to be known as Maria, 39, said she saw one of the robbers outside the shop holding two weapons, including a long parang. All the robbers were wearing dark-colored raincoats and hurriedly left the premises on two motorcycles without registration numbers.
“The atmosphere at the time was quiet because it was Friday prayer time, and it happened so fast. We were also worried about our personal safety when one of the suspects held a weapon and was outside the premises,” she said.
