PETALING JAYA: A suitcase containing a body was found in the Perak River near Sayong Bridge in Kuala Kangsar today.
The body is believed to be that of a woman who had been dead for several days, based on its decomposed condition, reported Berita Harian.
The suitcase, wrapped in plastic, was discovered by a boat operator ferrying tourists.
Perak fire and rescue department operations assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said five personnel from the Kuala Kangsar fire and rescue station were deployed to the scene after receiving a call from police this afternoon.
A crowd had gathered to watch the police operation.
The police’s forensic unit arrived at the scene at about 6.40pm.
Tour boat operators reportedly noticed the suitcase several days ago but were unaware of its contents.
The contents were revealed today when part of the body emerged and an odour was detected.
