PETALING JAYA: A DAP leader has urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) election director Amirudin Shari to clarify his statement that the coalition is still open to working with Perikatan Nasional (PN) or Bersatu.
DAP deputy secretary-general Ramkarpal Singh also asked if the matter had been discussed or decided by the PH presidential council, adding that DAP had never discussed the possibility of these alliances.
“The matter is a serious one as it relates to the trajectory and direction of PH and its potential partners in future coalitions, which must certainly be thoroughly discussed by component parties before any such announcement is made.
“I am not aware of any such stance and can confirm that the matter has not been raised at any level in DAP to date.
“In these circumstances, the matter should be clarified forthwith to avoid any confusion that may arise as a result,” the Bukit Gelugor MP said in a statement.
Ramkarpal also said DAP could not at this juncture form any cooperation with PAS, which chairs PN, especially after the Islamic party’s president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed DAP harbours an anti-Malay-Muslim agenda.
“In my view, this baseless allegation against DAP is merely an instance that proves there cannot be any cooperation between the two parties at this point of time,” he said.
Yesterday, Amirudin said PH had not closed the door to cooperation with PN or Bersatu, and that prospective partners must uphold “political stability and the people’s interests”.
Bersatu, a former PH member, remains a PN component but appears to be on its way out of the opposition coalition following a fallout with PAS.
