PETALING JAYA: Malaysia had recorded 58,079 dengue cases as of Aug 15, 56.2% higher than the number recorded in the same period in 2025.
The health ministry said 55 people had died from dengue-related complications as of the end of the 32nd epidemiological week of 2026.
It warned that while initial clusters were concentrated in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, the risk of dengue spreading nationwide remained a concern, given upward trends detected in several other states.
“The rise in dengue cases has been influenced by various factors, including uncertain weather – rainfall interspersed with hot weather – which provides a conducive environment for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
“A high number of unattended water containers in and around residential areas has also contributed to the increased risk of Aedes mosquitoes breeding and spreading dengue,” it said in a statement today.
The ministry advised the public to spend at least 10 minutes a week inspecting their homes and eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites.
It also urged residents to take personal protective measures against mosquito bites and to seek immediate medical attention if they experience high fever or other signs of dengue.
“Preventing and controlling dengue cases requires a whole-of-society approach, especially since more than 70% of Aedes mosquito breeding sites are still found in residential areas,” it said.
