KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended its gains to close higher against the US dollar today, supported by last-minute buying ahead of the release of the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes later tonight.

At 6pm, the ringgit inched up to 4.0565/4.0610 against the US dollar from yesterday’s close of 4.0575/4.0615.

Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Rashid said the markets will be observing the FOMC minutes, which will be published later tonight, to seek more clues on the US Federal Reserve’s stance on monetary policy.
