SEPANG: Ex-Subang MP Wong Chen has apologised to his former constituents for resigning before Parliament’s dissolution, saying he could have remained in office until the legislature is dissolved.
Wong said he had no regrets in over 13 years of serving as an MP, and that he served diligently in representing the people of Subang and Kelana Jaya since 2013.
“Resigning one year early (before Parliament automatically dissolves) is what I would apologise to the people for.
“I could have waited until Parliament was dissolved, but I chose to step down,” he told reporters at a press conference at the Bersama headquarters in Puchong here today.
Wong nonetheless said his decision to resign as Subang MP and from PKR was driven by his sense of duty to defend democracy and the Federal Constitution.
“My record is clear, my conscience is absolutely clear,” he added.
Wong resigned as Subang MP on Monday and left PKR for Bersama today.
He was among several PKR MPs who attended the launch of Bersama by former ministers Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in May.
