PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s new men’s doubles pair Tee Kai Wun-Yap Roy King advanced to the Korea Masters final without hitting a shuttlecock, after their Japanese opponents were forced to withdraw from their semi-final match.
Malaysia’s doubles coach Herry Pengiran confirmed that Japan’s Shuji Sawada-Daigo Tanioka conceded the walkover because one of them suffered an injury.
“We hope our other men’s doubles pair Soh Wooi Yik-Man Wei Chong will win their semi-final match to make it an all-Malaysian final, which will assure us of the title,” he told FMT.
Kai Wun-Roy King were only paired together about a month ago and have played in just three tournaments.
Wooi Yik-Wei Chong will face another Japanese pair, Haruki Kawabe-Kenta Matsukawa, in the other last-four match to be played at the Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium in Asan, South Korea, today.
Earlier, national men’s singles player Cheam June Wei was beaten by China’s Zhu Xuan Chen 8-21, 21-16, 12-21 in the semi-finals.
