PETALING JAYA: National men’s singles shuttler Cheam June Wei booked a semi-final berth at the Korea Masters after defeating a higher-ranked Taiwanese opponent in a three-game quarter-final match today.

Ranked world No 72, June Wei achieved a career-best result by reaching the semi-final of a World Tour Super 300 tournament for the first time after defeating world No 42 Su Li Yang 23-21, 10-21, 21-18 in a 67-minute match at the Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium in Asan, South Korea.

He will face either Chinese players Hu Zhe An or Zhu Xuan Chen in the semi-final tomorrow. Both players are ranked higher than June Wei, who has yet to face either of them.
