HANG TUAH JAYA: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has brushed aside claims that the trust between him and his deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was at its lowest point since the formation of the unity government in 2022.
Anwar said the claim by former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was a “personal view”.
He added that he and Khairy viewed the matter from different perspectives.
“He sees conflict. I see peace,” the PKR president told reporters after officiating the party’s congress, here.
Khairy, in a podcast that aired yesterday, said Barisan Nasional’s decision to join forces with Perikatan Nasional for the Negeri Sembilan polls created a “massive rupture” between BN and Pakatan Harapan.
The BN-PN alliance won 25 seats in the state election, while PH won the remaining 11 seats.
Anwar went on to point out that he had thanked Zahid and Umno in his congress speech for helping to forge the unity government. Zahid is also the BN chairman.
“That was why I thanked him earlier. In my speech, I spoke about the role of Zahid and Umno, as well as his role as BN chairman, in forging the unity government,” he said.
Asked whether their relationship remained good at the national level, Anwar said: “There are some minor issues at the state level. That is normal.”
