PETALING JAYA: Terengganu deputy speaker Khazan Che Mat has resigned as deputy chairman of Bersatu’s state chapter, following in the footsteps of Razali Idris who resigned as its head on Friday.
The Seberang Takir assemblyman said he has also resigned as Kuala Nerus Bersatu chief, with his resignation letter to be submitted to the leadership next week, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Khazan said he decided to resign and not take up the role of acting Terengganu Bersatu chief after considering the views of the state leadership committee.
“I’m not chasing after positions, and I only joined Bersatu in 2016 because I was invited by Razali,” he said.
The three-term assemblyman also slammed the Bersatu leadership, accusing it of being slow to fill the vacant Besut and Hulu Terengganu division chief posts.
Razali announced his resignation as Terengganu Bersatu chairman on Friday but did not disclose his reason for relinquishing the post. He is expected to also step down as Marang Bersatu chief in mid-September.
Telemong assemblyman Zawawi Ismail and Hulu Besut assemblyman Husaimi Hussin also announced their resignations as Terengganu Bersatu information chief and treasurer, respectively.
This is the latest in a string of resignations suffered by Bersatu, which also sacked several others after the expulsion of former deputy president Hamzah Zainudin in February.
Hamzah has since launched Wawasan, which joined Perikatan Nasional in June.
